I was commissioned to create three, larger than life, British butterflies that would be used in schools to be used in fun classes to help educate children about pollination. Because of the size and texture of the insects, they were also taken to residential homes for activities where the residents could touch and feel them.
One of the most important criteria given for this project was that the insects should NOT be cartoon-like interpretations of butterflies. They had to be child friendly, soft, and above all, anatomically accurate as much as possible within the limitations of the materials.
You can see the the process of making the Painted Lady and the Peacock butterflies in these separate posts.
